European Patent Office

The European Patent Office was established in 1977 as the executive body of the European Patent Organisation, on the basis of the European Patent Convention (EPC) signed in 1973 in Munich. Its creation resulted from the common political will of European countries to create a common patent system in Europe. The activities of the Office are supervised by the board of directors, which is the legislative body of the European Patent Organisation.
